There really should be something for just about everyone on this trip. However, it is somewhat exploratory in nature and information on ski routes is hard to come by. There appears to be quite a bit of moderate terrain in areas, but the trip is not recommended for beginners due to the basecamp nature without a hut and the somewhat exploratory nature regarding the terrain. There are some "haute routes" that go through the general vicinity, but there is very little information from groups that have spent a week at a time in the area. Most climbing information seems to assume a camp on the north side of Purity Pass near Black and Mitre creeks, mostly because the historical approach to the area for summer climbs was from Rogers Pass to the north. The north side of the Purity Range also provides the most logical east-west passage. The old AAC climbing guide describes the Purity Range as having good snow, ice and glacier routes rather than rock climbing routes. These often offer good skiing routes as well, particularly the glaciers. There is a fairly good picture of the area on page 439 of that climbing guide. Below Grand Mountain there is a long lower angled ridge/plateau extending down to treeline above Battle Brook. This appears to be good safe lower angled ski terrain, and one strong possibility for locating a camp. Going north into the Purity Group there are several routes to and through passes - old and new Purity Passes, and the col between Kilpatrick and Wheeler. These passes lead to good slopes on the other sides, if you're up for a long day. There should be a variety of aspects available to ski. Conditions can vary widely with weather, which is variable in April. But the time of day factor is typically very important this time of year, a fact that should be kept in mind when considering your return trip on a long day. The map is 82N/3 (Mt Wheeler), available from ITMB. Interactive online 3D topo: http://www.earthdetails.com/
