The following few cases are the tip of the iceberg. And some people still can't understand Measures like 41 and 48? Or the study to turn over certain OSP functions to local law enforcement?
Oregon State Police trooper sues agency in harassment - October 26, 2006
The trooper claims a pattern of abuse after alleging an attempted rape by a colleague. An Oregon State Police trooper who claims a fellow trooper attempted to rape her and then she endured retaliation and abuse for reporting the attack, has filed a $1 million lawsuit against the agency in U.S. District Court.
Oregon State Police Trooper Indicted for Coersion and Intimidation - September 1, 2006
OSP Officer Larry Purdy is indicted on counts of coersion and intimidation. For five months prior to the indictment he was on paid leave, collecting a state salary but not doing anything. Just before that, in January, he wrote a nice note of thanks to local State Rep Greg Smith for voting in favor of a $600,000 emergency appropriation.
OSP Trooper Pleads Guilty to Tresspassing in a Domestic Violence Case - November 1, 2005
As usual the guy was put on paid leave (ie given a paid vacation at taxpayer expense) for four months after the incident and until the investigation was complete.
Oregon State Police Trooper resigns in Sexual Misconduct Case - July 8, 2005
This case involved a minor who was in a Law Enforcement Explorers program. She obviously learned something about policing. Before resigning the officer was, of course, on paid "administrative leave" during investigation. If you're going to go out you may as well take a paid vacation on the way.
Public Records Requests Denied - November 5, 2004
Here is one example of the state refusing to release information on the disciplinary actions taken against Oregon State Police troopers.
OSP Trooper Seeks Revenge After City Cop Blows Whistle
Here is one example of what happens if you cross a state trooper. In another case a complaint was called into the Office of "Professional Standards" and the complainants computer was immediately siezed for search. Two months after the warrant expired they refused to return it. Who's the thief in this picture? (This incident is not described on the web at this time, but it has been verified.)
