This is a view of Ruderhofspitz (3473m) from the upper accumulation basin of Alpeinferner at about 3100m. On the far side of Ruderhofspitz is the head of the Stubaital and the bottom stations of the Stubai Getscher ski development (called Mutterberg Alm as a bus stop or on a road map). Some people do a one-day climb and ski descent of that side from the parking lot (total elevation difference about 1600-1700m).

The ascent route from this tour is to cross towards the icefall and go above it on the right into the basin bounded by the ridges of Ruderhofspitz. Then the ridge is gained someplace to the right of the summit and followed to the top. I had somewhat intended to attempt this summit, but I knew from local inquiries that the icefall and area above it had opened up some very large crevasses the previous summer. It was also getting late in the day considering the effects of the sun in June. I stopped to admire the view for a while with the idea of an ascent still in the back of my mind, but too many things were against it so I continued the tour and left this summit for another time.
