This is the rocky ridge I had tried to ski down through. It rolls over and from above you can't see all the way down, you just see more as you go. At some point it had gotten quite steep. Although I think there was a route all the way down on snow the snow was wet all the way through and was sitting on a smooth rock surface. To my right (viewers left) the slope was shorter but consistently steeper and there were numerous glide cracks there - indicating the snowpack as a whole was gliding along the smooth rock underneath. I decided to go back up to the lateral morraine of the Ubeltalferner. I had to stick close to the edge since crevasses run right up to the morraine in spots and as I got lower the snowpack was thinner and warmer so the quality of snow bridges over any crevasses was more suspect than it had been up higher.
