One last view back in the direction of Roter Grat and Becherhaus. In the center is an example of an area where the snow has glide cracks, which was common in this area. The underlying surface throughout this area is mostly smooth rock.

From here I skirted Vogelhutten See, took a break and packed the skis just below it, and worked my way down the Ridnauntal in Italy using summer routes. This turned into a bit of an epic with a misleading trail, a long hike, a lack of transportation down the road to Sterzig, and finally a lack of train service to Brenner Pass and the Austrian border due to a train strike. This is described a bit at the end of the Narrative. I didn't take any photos below here and as frustrating as the initial part of the descent on foot was it was really just a hike out from here down.
